Ghost hunting does have equipment that the hunters use, because ghosts aren't normally seen or heard by the naked eye or ear. The most commonly used ghost hunting equipment is electron voice phenomenon (EVP), infrared cameras, dowsing rods, and electromagnetic field detectors (EMF meter). Psychics are sometimes used to actually communicate with the supernatural. EVP’s are basically just tape recorders and are used to hear sounds which are believed to be a ghost talking. The sounds heard on the recordings aren't usually heard while on the hunt, they are usually only heard when replaying the EVP. Infrared cameras are used to capture ghostly images, by simply recording and displaying an image that wasn't seen with the naked eye. A dowsing rod is used to detect vibrations, made by a ghost’s energy because energy vibrations give off waves that can be measured. An EMF meter detects differences in electromagnetic fields. The normal readings and the EMF meter ranges anywhere from 9.0 and 30.0, anything less than that is said to be associated with paranormal activity. Motion lights are also commonly used. Some hunters like to use a technique that our armed forces use, the use of better peripheral vision at night time, as a tool. This is using one’s peripheral vision to look around during the investigation. It’s fairly common for people to see shadows and movements at night out of the corner of their eye, but as soon as they turn to look at the image head on, it disappears. Then there is always just a gut feeling that something isn't right that causes hairs to stand up, that gives hunters the belief that something other than themselves are present.
